UWC Graduate Writing Retreats are an opportunity to work alongside your peers in a quiet, distraction-free environment. We provide coffee, light snacks, and worksheets for goalsetting and quick writing exercises. Several UWC staff are also available to provide mini 15-minute consultations. Come all day or stay for a few hours, and get ready to get some writing done!

Improv requires you to understand group dynamics, tell stories, and say yes in the face of the unknown. In many ways, improv draws upon the very same skills we cultivate as science and tech students. This beginner-friendly improv workshop will use the tools of improvisational theater to help you become a better collaborator, increase your storytelling skills, and become more relaxed with all of the unknowns that come with your path in science and tech. UT requires open access publication of all theses, reports, and dissertations. However, the Graduate School can temporarily delay the publication (embargo) of your thesis or dissertation for up to seven years.

There’s more than one way to skin a cat make a map. This new take on an old adage speaks to the recent proliferation of software tools and online platforms for visualizing data spatially. This workshop will provide a broad overview of commonly used tools, from powerful open source GIS software like QGIS to new online web mapping platforms like ArcGIS Online. If you have ever wondered how to make a map from a table of geospatial coordinates or a list of addresses – this session is for you.
